No Fun at Starbucks Today
Well...we tried to have our first meeting together at Starbuck's, but quickly learned that you have to PAY to use the Internet at Starbuck's. The "old ladies" did not know this, so we relocated to the lovely Rock Springs Media Center where we viewed some blogs by other teachers and began our blog pages. I enjoyed reading the blogs from elementary classes, but still wonder about privacy issues and parent permission for their children's photos to be posted. Guess I will have to do some more research on this issue...

As one of the "old ladies" who was with you, I agree! I am also anxious to be as good as some of these great blogs we looked at!
ReplyDeleteI guess we will need to educate parents as well as ourselves.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the name of your blog! I just commented to Beth that if you have ATT as your internet provider at home you can access FREE wifi at Starbucks.
ReplyDeleteAs for educating parents, YES some will need to be educated. We do ask the parents to sign something at the begining of the year asking for permission to have their child's pictures used online and in the media (media release form), you might want to send home a seperate form for parents if you are going to be doing this in your class. For the most part, I think once parents see what you are doing they are very happy about it, the internet does not have the stigma that it once had, mainly because this is life now - even George W. Bush has a twitter account now! I would still be VERY careful about using only first names.
Perhaps something we can work on in the futrue is one form that can be added to the back of the handbook for signing and returning that covers photos of studetns and their work in all media used for promotion of educational purposes... I am sure Angie would go for this!
